Here is my attempt to translate this beautiful Kannada poem...
Title: Ishtu Kala Ottigiddu

Ishtu kaala ottigiddu eshtu beretaru
Aritevenu naavu namma antaraalava
Aritevenu naavu namma antaraalava
In spite of spending so much of time with ourselves,
we still aren't able to understand/decipher our true self/within. (the true being within us)
(Here the poet depicts the hard irony of life & encourages the reader to explore the true self within him)
Kadala mele saaviraaru maili saagiyu
Neerinaala tiliyitenu hayi donige
Neerinaala tiliyitenu hayi donige
Even After sailing a thousands of miles on the sea,
will the boat be able to measure the depth of the ocean.
Sadaakaala tabbuvante mele baagiyu
Manna muttu dorakitenu neeli banige
Manna muttu dorakitenu neeli banige
Although the sky is always bent towards the earth & at some point may even seem like both of them are hugging each other,
sky will never be able to touch the crust of the soil. (sky can never feel the warmth of the soil / earth)
Saaviraru mukhada cheluva hididu toriyu
Ondaadaru uliyite kannadiya palige
Ondaadaru uliyite kannadiya palige
The mirror might have reflected thousands of beauties,
but will it be ever able to retain a single beauty for itself..
